As December is normally a cold month in the UK, if possible pick a venue where you have your ceremony and reception in one place so you can your guests are not worrying about transport, instead staying cosy in the one place.

INVITATIONS

To really get in the Christmas theme, send out Christmas cards as your wedding invitations. Not only is this very affordable, it will also get your guests feeling festive.

WHAT TO WEAR

Opt for a winter floral crown with ivy, berries and cones. Long sleeve wedding dresses with lots of glitter. Golds are always particular popular at this time of year. Make sure you have a few accessories to hand to keep you warm including a faux fur stole or cape.

WINTER COLOURS

Reds and greens are a traditional colour at Christmas but other deep shades like burgundy is a popular colour during winter, as well as crisp whites, silver and ice blue to really give the winter look. Golds and rich creams are also perfect for a warm feel.

Having a whistling white tree decorated with beautiful baubles to match your wedding colour scheme, bringing the outdoors in to create a seasonal backdrop. Jingle bells as your guests enter. Holly, pinecones and of course mistletoe, with lots of tinsel and glitter. Wreathes and snowflakes decorated around the venue. Snowflakes on the table. Blue lights in fish bowls for the winter look. ENTERTAINMENT

If you are having a photo booth, have Christmas themed props. For the little ones, ask your venue if one of their staff will dress up as father Christmas and have little gifts for their favours. Ensure you give your DJ a playlist of classics at Christmas - this sure guarantees every guest will be on the dance floor. Ask your DJ if they have a projector to beam snowflakes onto the walls and dance floor to really give the Christmas spirit.

FOOD

Serve mince pies instead of canapés for a tasty festive treat. Choose a traditional Christmas dinner for your wedding breakfast, and a Christmas pudding for dessert. Mulled wine and warm ciders is a must for on arrival or during the toast, with hot chocolate for the little ones.
